The project involves the rethinking and upgrade of New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) centralized waste yard at 15 different NYCHA properties and 22 waste yard sites across 4 boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx). In partnership with NYCHA residents and staff, the team studied their relationships to public streetscapes and the impact on community experience. The yards will be more efficient, handle large volumes of waste and will include programmatic elements to activate their perimeter with playful elements, seating, planting, and infographics to make the yards more aesthetically pleasing and visually more interesting from eye level and from overhead so that residents can think about.
