The project involved the conversion and addition to an existing carriage house in Brooklyn, NY. The first part of the project involved a zoning analysis to convert the existing one and a half story building classified as a garage to residential use with parking facility for the owners.
The proposed scope involves a gut renovation of the existing structure to create a single family residence with two additional stories. The first floor includes a garage, living, dining kitchen and a family room. A previously existing courtyard was recreated in the center of the lot. The living and family room spaces open into the courtyard. The second floor includes bedrooms and laundry room. The third floor will serve as a multipurpose space with two roof terraces on the north and south side of the building.
The scope involves a new mechanical, plumbing and sprinkler system, new structural frame and additional foundational support. The existing and new portions of the building have been modified and designed to meet the new energy code requirements and solar panels will be installed on the roof.
